Bright Chromium and zinc plating provide the base for this requirement. The bright, blue surface that these metals exhibit, compliment the light and open spaces seen is most shopping outlets, highlighting the retail and food products they present.
Chromium is most often employed for racking which is subjected to high degree of wear, for example racking for clothes. The abrasion resistant chromium plate provides many years of service while retaining its high luster and brightness.
Zinc, particularly blue passivated 'chrome look', is most commonly found in items which require good corrosion protection and are frequently recycled / refurbished, supermarket carts are an illustration of this.
And the future? Well dark chromium fashion finishes compliment light and dark woods which are often used to fabricate large areas of racking. Bright coloured finishes are obtained by MacDermid electrophoretic lacquers, applied over electroplated metal coatings. For finishes that are primarily protecting the base metal, higher corrosion resistance is being demanded.
